About
Emyr Cummins
Creative Consultant & Graphic Designer
I am a designer who creates web sites with a focus on user experience. I also develop brands and logo design. Since 2005 I have worked as an independent freelance designer working for a wide range of clients.
I have 15 years experience in designing for the web. I’m always learning new skills due to the forever changing face of the internet – this approach is necessary in this fast moving web industry.
The realisation of the 15 year milestone has given me the inspiration to show my latest work, sitting alongside other work from the archives that allows me to take a retrospective look at my career in design.
I’ve decided to structure this website much like a blog, this allows me to show a body of work that spans from interactive CD-Rom and the early days of the web, through to designing online experiences for the internet today.
What I essentially do…
User Interface design for websites
Creating fresh, clean looking and intuitive User Interfaces (UI) in Photoshop is my speciality. Getting the look right is important but function is equally important. I have a lot of usability know-how that I factor into the design process. Over the years I have worked closely with interaction programmers to ensure the my designs come to life as I intended for users when they interact with my user interface designs.
User experience, information architecture and wireframes
My skills and interests cross into information architecture, the way pages on a website relate to one another, the way information is structured, along with plotting user journeys, that allows me to design online experiences from the viewpoint of an user. This most often takes shape in a set of wireframes, a diagrammatic illustrations of pages layouts that helps to define and communicate the user journey.
Online retail
I have a lot of experience in e-commerce and designing online stores. My skills in this area goes further that just UI design as I work at a higher level, designing user journey from homepage to basket. I take a lot of interest in user behaviour, tracking and monitoring web analytics that influences designing coherent user experiences with a minimum of clicks.
Brand development and logo design
I design logos and brands for companies, products and services –most often for online. I have a keen eye for typographic elegance which helps me create aesthetically pleasing identities. I also develop brands further by developing a set of brand guidelines – some rules that define how the brand should be used, with taglines, primary and secondary colour palettes, corporate fonts, stationary and brand imagery.
WordPress Website & Blog Design
This is my latest offering. I have recently acquired new skills in WordPress which gives me the tools I need to develop websites by myself, when I am not working on a project with a large team of developers. I can design, customise and build websites and blogs in WordPress that are completely content managed – which means I can design and set up a website and hand over the keys to my customers.
A bit more about me… I am originally come from Wales and have lived in North London for 10 years. I have many interests outside of my professional world, these include playing the piano, cooking at home, eating out, genealogy, photography, travel, football & rugby and spending time with my wife and son.
